Cypress raised garden beds
Cypress sleepers are a great option for construction of raised beds in comparison to treated pine and old railway sleepers. Cypress sleepers provide a high quality and sustainable option and the bright and consistent colour of Golden Cypress looks fantastic in any garden setting, not to mention the lovely smell!
Cypress wood is naturally resistant to termites, looks great and is harvested as rescued timber from farms which were previously used as windbreaks. The raised beds are perfect for positioning against an unused fence or along a patio wall for vegies or herbs. The benefits of cypress wood are:
- A safer, truly ‘eco’ alternative. No treatment required, no chemicals.
- Durable: Similar to Jarrah and River Red Gum, expect ~15+ years in-ground (NZFRI).
- Ethically sourced: Only dangerous, sick or redundant trees are harvested.
- Tight grain. Minimal sapwood. Extremely low shrinkage. No wastage!
- Golden Cypress looks good and presents well.
- Own a talking point: Golden Cypress has a distinct colour and fresh, slightly spicy fragrance

Aquaponics System Build
Fancy eating fish from your garden and crispy salad greens that grow super quick?
We can build an aquaponics system which will provide a continual supply of salad greens and one to two yields of fish per year.
The system build will include the following elements:
- 800L fish tank/sump
- 4000 L/hr submersible pump
- 1 cubic metre grow bed
- Grow bed substrate (expanded clay)
- Piping
- Bell siphon
We can provide a list of sources for sourcing the fish fingerlings.
The system will be built and installed for $1000.
Soil Assessment and Remediation
We can help you assess the quality of your soil to make sure the vegetables you grow are produced in healthy and clean soil. Soil quality can be difficult to see with bare eyes and getting a samples for the laboratory to analyse is the most effective means.
David has eight years experience in environmental site assessments with knowledge of where to sample, what to look for, depths and how many samples to collect. We have contracts with environmental laboratories and can supply the jars and interpret the results to ensure your soil is suitable for healthy vegies.
Soil testing is possible for these contaminants:
- Heavy metals (lead, arsenic, mercury, zinc etc)
- Petroleum hydrocarbons
- Pesticides
- Excess nutrients (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite)
- Physical properties (pH, moisture)
Results are usually available after 5 days.
